What does an LCD screen mean?

An LCD screen stands for Liquid Crystal Display. This technology utilizes liquid crystals that are manipulated to produce images. In an LCD, liquid crystals are sandwiched between two layers of glass or plastic, and when an electric current is applied, the crystals align in ways that allow varying amounts of light to pass through, creating images. This design is integral to much of modern display technology, including televisions, computer monitors, and mobile devices, as it allows for thinner screens and lower power consumption compared to older technologies like cathode-ray tubes (CRTs).
